The note sequence videos to the left are placed here as a reminder of the importance of memorizing the 2 note sequence patterns.

Be sure to commit the note sequence patterns to memory. They are vital components when understanding the relationship between music in general and your guitar.

Chord Progression Exercise 1

This exercise is designed to allow the musician to learn to play the primary chords for the Major Key, the corresponding Relative Minor Key, plus additional chord(s) in a progression.

To begin the exercise:

  1. Complete the Beginner Key/Chord Exercise.
  2. Practice positioning your fingers on the guitar based on the diagram provided below for the Additional Chord(s). Practice by holding the chord and strumming.
  3. Once you are comfortable with the first chord, move on to the the other chords (if applicable), until you have completed all of the Additional Chord(s).
  4. Complete the above steps until you have memorized the position of all of the chords (including those learned in the Beginner Key/Chord Exercise).
  5. Once all of the chords are memorized, play all of the chords in the order presented below in the Chord Progression section, (moving from left to right) to complete a Chord Progression. Play one chord and move to the next chord in the sequence as shown, strumming after each chord until you have completed all of the chords through the Relative Minor Key chords.
  6. Continue the sequence until you are comfortable playing each chord, moving to the next easily and making a smooth transition.
  7. Use these chords to build songs in A Flat Major or F Minor.
  8. Move to the next Key Chord Progression and repeat the process.
